PostSubject: Question about Retroactive Records   Fri Nov 06, 2009 12:19 pm

OK, looking at some of the titles that Retroactive is currently putting out, specifically the Sweet Comfort Band, I am wondering if anyone knows the direction the company is planning to go in re-issues?

In another post about SCB, Cliffy remarked that the rights to SCB's self-titled album was help by Maranatha and that Retroactive didn't have rights "yet" which led me to believe they were pursuing it. I would love to hear some of the other Maranatha early releases re-mastered and re-issued. Specifically Mustard Seed Faith's "Sail on Sailor". Does anyone know if Retroactive might be looking into re-issuing more Jesus Music albums?

Email Matt at brutalplanet@gmail.com and ask him. Let us know what he says.

BAH!
...y'know what would be awesome? The Love Song live album, in its two-disc entirety, and not that trounced one-disc CD reissue from the 90s...I want that 20-minute drum solo, man...

I guess a lot of that depends on how much Matt knows about that era, how much he likes the music of that era, and how profitable he thinks it would be to archive and reissue that material.

Personally, I like the market that they are dealing in currently. I'd rather Retroactive focus on what they've done best (hard rock/metal) and let someone else focus on that era.

From what I understad they are looking into reissuing more "Jesus music", but getting rights from labels like Maranatha is not easy/cheap. Stuff released on Light Records are easier to reissue.

If we want to see artists like Mustad Seed Faith, Love Song and other "Jesus music" reissued (I surely do) the best way to let the label know there is a demand for this type of music is by purchasing the titles that already are out there (Servant, Children Of The Day, Sweet Comfort Band)

I have e-mailed Matt and he has already responded. He asked me not to share too much of what he said, but I would recommend keeping an eye on their website for items that they are able to acquire rights to re-issue. There are desires and attempts that are going on and Matt would like prayer support (which was awesome to know) in Retroactives endeavors.

I think it would be cool if they could maybe get some rights to some old Benson/Myrrh labels. Stuff like DeGarmo & Key, Mylon & Broken Heart, etc.
