I pre-ordered this cd. I am in the thanks! Whoo Hooo! Anyway I hadn't bought a Mort cd since Blood World. I decided what the heck! So far it hasn't really impressed me. I have only listened to it a few times. I will give it some more time. Metal Up!

That is a fantastic piece of cover art man!
I've only heard Primitive Rhythm Machine by these guys, and while I respect their standing in the Christian metal world, that album was a bit 2nd rate I felt. Certainly nowhere near the standard required for a killer death metal record.
Hope the new one is good!!

That one really isn't a death metal lp, but I don't consider it 2nd rate. Scrolls is really the only true death metal lp they recorded, others have that feel to them to one degree or another.

That would be an understatement IMO. I agree with you Candlemass, there have been some, "really great ones" indeed, since Bloodworld.

I would agree. Primitive Rhythm Machine is one of my favorite MORTIFICATION albums.

The band had moved away from death metal by this point. I will agree that the recording is a bit weak on this one, but I think the songs are quite good.

To the last few posts - cheers guys and yes I understand they were not really death metal as such at that point. I only heard them back when one of my customers was a Christian music/book warehouse distributor, and they promoted the album as such. At that time (mid 90's) I was way into Meshuggah/Opeth/Testament etc and felt it just wasn't in the same league. Thats an unfair criticism because not many bands are IMO .
More power to Mortification and their fans

I think anything from Envision back is in the same league as any top shelf metal band. I would encourage you to check out "Post Momentary Affliction."

Whatever style you want to label PMA it was incredible.

Hmmmmm......earlier I mentioned Primitive Rhythm Machine as among the MORTIFICATION favorites.


So......since it came up.....Post Momentary Affliction IS the #1 favorite of mine out of all the MORTIFICATION albums.

Last night I put on Primitive Rhythm Machine and listened with an open set of ears.
Man, did I ever miss the point.
This is an excellent album .
First few songs in I'm thinking its along the lines of Chaos AD or Roots (which came out either side of this record), but it just got better and better.
Next thing I know I'm reading the lyrics and they are totally connecting.
Then I'm opening the bible and God seems to be showing me some really important verses.
I once was a Christian about 20 years ago, and a couple of years ago my wife became a Christian.
Long story short I think God is drawing me back to him.
This album seems to have popped back up at just the right time.
Funny how it all works eh?
