I thought the last one was great!

I think the charge of "sub par" music is a bit harsh, the last lp had some great tunes on it, so did Relentless. I've enjoyed to one degree or another everything Mort has released, just didn't dig the clips I heard, though it might stand up as an lp. Look, there's plenty of music out there in the secular market that is drivel compared to later day Mort! I think the real problem is the early Mort was just so bloody good, hard to live up to that.

I like Steve Rowe in as much as I know him from the music and respect his continual dedication to the Lord and am still grateful for his miracle recovery from cancer. I think I would take his musical approach more seriously if he wouldn't come up with such hokey titles for his album (yes he has a sense of humor I get it but still...).

The more I listen to the new one the more I am liking it. It is probably the vocal lines that took me the longest to get used to.

Well, Mort went from a fairly serious metal band to a "Manowarish" type of thing.

I think what really throws me off about most of Steve Rowe's songwriting nowadays, is it seems that he writes the vocal lines to parallel EVERY note he plays most of the time. It seems there's absolutely no variety anymore. It's just the same plodding music. It's far too simple

.....which, in my opinion, is something Steve Rowe will never return to.....nor do I think he could write songs like that again....too bad really

I've listened to some samples and I have to say, there is some smokin' guitar work! Though I like Steve's growl more than his shout.

Mortification is bleh.

I respect what they do but:
1) the music doesn't grab me, and never did (in the grind fase and now);
2) the vocals (and especially the vocal lines) are especially uninspiring
3) Mike as a tendency of being too melodramatic for my taste, be it on interview or on the way he writes his lyrics.

Maybe he's got him mixed up with Mike Rowe from the show Dirty Jobs on Discovery Channel. Razz

Sorry... I meant Steve (Rowe). Smile For a moment, I mixed up the name with Tempest's guitarist.

I really like the new album. After multiple listens it really starts to grow on you.

Loving it.

Make sure you give it more than one spin. It took a few listens before I started getting into it.

Silver Cord is my least favorite MORTIFICATION album.

It's a keeper IMO......it's not nearly bad enough to get rid of......but it is my last in the list of releases.

Very few albums I love first off last the distance over time. Ones like the new Mort take some time to adjust to, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as they will be more appreciated in the long run.
