Boy after the glut of stuff in 86 I've found that 1987 was much more sparse... at least from I'm surveying.... yikes... No wonder I was going crazy, but there were still several good releases that year. Trying to find actually label releases seemed a bit harder than I thought for this year!! so I fudged a few....

I voted for Petra, 'cause I love that album. I feel like such a traitor to metal though, because The Past Behind was just so wretchedly brutal and awesome. But I had to go with Petra.

I almost fell down when I heard Whitecross s/t back in '87. I had never heard Christian music like that before. Its a long story, but suffice it to say - that album remains one of my favorite albums of all time by any band. However, Petra's This Means War was a VERY close #2. That is my favorite Petra record.

I went with 100% Proof. I must be the only person here who has heard "The Power and The Glory". It's better material is brilliant. But the problem is, as far as I can tell, it still is a vinyl only release. Somebody needs to get this re-issued on CD...

Bloodgood wins out easily for me on this list. _________________ “If you make less than $250,000 your taxes will not go up. Their first album was not quite as polished but still just as good. From Power and the Glory their song 'I am Gonna Win' is brilliant....

Back in the day Whitecross blew me away.. 15 years ago I would have voted for it, but now, I'll have to go with Leviticus SFTTE. Thanks to Ez's bass-work, this is the best Leviticus album ever IMO.

I came to Christian rock & metal very late so I didn't hear any of these releases new. But I have most of them now. I went with Bloodgood, Detonation is a fantastic album. _________________ -- Peace, that brief moment in history when everyone stops to reload.

Are you guys Crazy! California Metal brought Deliverance, Neon Cross, and Guardian to the masses! Shortly after California Metal came out Metal Mardi Gras was staged and Vengeance was unleashed! Next would be Whitecross, Bloodgood, The Lead, Leviticus, and Trytan.

I actually took the leap and chose the lead (Steve Garvey fan!). blood good as one of my all-time favorite bands but at the time detonation was a let down for me because I have been so into this self-titled. But I do like detonation a lot. California metal is great and my props to white cross, just wasn't quite my favorite style in metal. But great band. And I like celestial messenger as well

I remember seeing Vengeance at the Set Free Christian Fellowship in Anaheim I believe. It was the day before the first HIS Festival (which was before Metal Mardi Gras). They played the only songs they had which was off of the first Demo. I honestly don't remember Cal Metal coming out before Metal Mardi Gras, just because talking with several of the bands there they were excited about it coming out. Who knows I could be wrong... Wouldn't be the first time!!! |
