I think ETG is a classic thrash album too

ES - Playing those albums for Death Metal fans would make them laugh as those albums aren't anywhere near Death Metal.

Arguably (it has and will be argued) Morty's only three Death(y) albums were the first three.

I like it all but Silver Chord.

Points:

1. Candlemass said about the post by Norm:

empyrealsymphony wrote:
No offense because I do love Steve Rowe as a person but... Mortification as a band is a total joke. They gave Christian metal a very bad name in the late 90's and they continue to do so.

This post is a total joke!

I agree. A "total joke"?? Question

We differ.

The rest of the post beyond the "total joke" statement?? Question

We differ.

2. Norm said:

Quote:
Try playing some late 90's mortification (Triumph Of Mercy, Hammer of God, Silver Chord, etc..) to secular death metal fans.

Er.......dude......none of it is death metal. Evil or Very Mad None of it, what you named. Evil or Very Mad

3. I could give a rat's a** what "secular death metal fans" think about.....oh......pretty much anything. Least of all music. Rolling Eyes

4. OCI said:

Quote:
Technically, all that needs to be done to give Christian metal a bad name among the knuckle-dragging neo-Nietzche metal crowd is that it be Christian metal, heh. So regardless of whether the later Mort stuff is that great (I don't think it is), who cares what people think? They'll complain about anything. Even if the review is technically a good one, they'll still make some pathetic sounding whining about the Christian lyrical themes and warning all the big strong metal fans that they may not be able to handle listening to the record. Christian reviews sometimes do little warning things about some secular albums, but in contrast, what's so horrible about Christ? Yep..

Fantastic post. cheers All of it. cheers

For a lot of non--Christian metalheads the only thing that has to be done to instantly demote and denigrate the music is tell them that it is Christian.

5. I want to emphasize this because OCI said:

Quote:

And I did lol!

A word comes to mind to describe the non--Christian metalhead with such tendencies. Twisted Evil

Now what is it....... scratch

Gorfnarkle?? Question No. Evil or Very Mad

Ditznagel?? Question No. Evil or Very Mad

Pathetic?? Question Yeah.....that's it. cheers Pathetic. cheers

I'll even broaden out my phrase above about the "rat's hindquarters" and "secular death metal fans". Twisted Evil

When it comes to what "secular metal fans" think about Christian hard rock/heavy music/metal.......those aforementioned "secular metal fans" can take their opinions about music and stick it way far up that "rat's hindquarters". I don't need their validation or even liking of the Christian hard rock/heavy music/metal band's lyrical content. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

6. I love all the MORTIFICATION albums before and after Silver Cord. That one, out of all the rest, is not a frequent spinner, but it is still a keeper IMO.

DITTO

When Steve got sick after Envision Evangeline we were afraid that was it for Mort. But he not only came back but they have consistently been able to come out with Stellar tunes over the years. What a miracle!

I would agree with that statement. The rest is just good ole metal with thrash elements.

The interesting thing too, as for Norm's assertion they were a joke, even through their weakest albums I would read reviews that did not totally pan the band. I think with his sickness some of the albums lacked some of the focus of their top stuff but they were never a joke. I think his in your face lyrics made some hate him, I know the crowd at Stigs old board slagged them a lot but that seems to be typical of that kind of crowd for most blatant christian bands. ie Saint.

It's so funny how most of the same people like that are the 'I don't care about/never read the lyrics' people otherwise..

It's also funny how when their favorite song comes on you can hear them singing all the lyrics they "don't know!" Laughing

As much as I LOVE Mort and as much as I think that in their PRIME they could cut the mustard "LIVE" with ANYONE (Christian or Secular), I would say that since Steve's health issues and just after getting older, the edge for "live" energy on stage would be with The Showdown. But only in the context of NOW. Just like you can say that Manny Rameirez is a better hitter than Sammy Sosa RIGHT NOW. But since their primes do not coinside you have to match up what they did in their prime. Thus in this "DREAM CONCERT" senario MORT is the head liner hands down. But truthfully, if these band were on the road together, The Showdown would probably headline.

But I cannot stress this enough. This "DREAM CONCERT" was not devised to be a BATTLE OF BANDS, but an alliance of Christ Metal Warriors to glorify Jesus Christ, Amen?

I found the Noah ep last week online and gave it a listen. "Noah Was A Knower" is a fun tune IMO. Sure it's goofy but I think Steve meant it to be goofy. The interview on that ep is great.
