Somebody already mentioned something similar but consider this. With the economy the way it is I would submit that some of the shows on this Stryper tour would not have been booked and the fans would not have been able to see Stryper in their area if it were not for the extra funds coming in from the meet n greets as some promoters/venues are very careful on who to book right now and at what price. I know this for a fact and I'm sure it is something that other bands of Strypers stature have to deal with as well. I am grateful that all of these shows are happening in this environment and if it took meet n greets to get them done then so be it. Nobody is forced to purchase them.

Points:

1. Wow...... ......this thread has gone on for 3 pages now. Why?? WTF??

I have some relevant thoughts here.

Well......down there really. VVVV

And maybe the band needs money too, and they figure by charging at least they'll cut out the people who want autographs to resell rather than true autograph collectors.

Bingo.

BFB.

Big freaking bingo.

In my opinion, you payed to see the band perform, that is it. They don't owe you anything more than a good concert performance.

Oh look...... ......another BFB.

4. And the reason some of the peeps on this thread don't want to *Tip* other Christians, in other lines of work, when they do a good job is......is......what??

End of thoughts. Move along. Move along.

If a band is a ministry it is an opprtunity to sow into them.

That's a cool way of looking at it. Many ministries will offer a product of some sort of product (a book, a cd, etc...) and ask that you give them a donation of $XX.XX or more and they will send it to you. "XYZ Christian Band" is doing no different. They are offering you as a ministry partner an opportunity to sow into their ministry and in consideration for your donation, you get a meet and greet. It's a matter of semantics perhaps, but there's no real difference. If anything, I'd say that the meet and greet ticket is a more open and honest way of raising funds to finance the ministry.

With the way the economy is I am sure some bands and artists are feeling it too

I thought the price for the Stryper one was reasonable

Any band has the right to charge for a meet and greet experience if
they so choose. I don't have a problem with that. It's just, for me,
personally, I'm not gonna pay just for the privilege of having someone
say "hello" to me. IMO, it's ridiculous!

Now, in the case of Stryper. First of all their price is extremely
reasonable. I think it was $37.50 which included a cd and seeing the
band do their sound-check. So you're getting the band's new disc plus
seeing a little bit of a pre-show performance. That's pretty cool. I
just wasn't able to pay the extra money for that at this time. Just glad I got to see the show, which was AWESOME, BTW!

Now in the case of Kiss, well, they want $995.00!

In the case of Uncle Ted that was mentioned earlier. That was for charity, which is absolutely cool! It's not like he was just pocketing the money!

At the end of the day, I guess you just have to look at it on a case by case bases.

I did not opt for the meet and greet. I got tix to the Stryper show. 24.50 each. On a side note, I was offered passes. I declined because I could afford to pay. And trust me, they need the dough. But yeah, if you dont dig the meet and great then dont go. They are sold out anywats...lol....That should tell you something.

I recently saw where bands are charging like 5 bucks to read there blogs on myspace. I don't get it. freely it has been given freely you should give. not necesarily your cd's but a blog entry talking about the gospel?

Never heard of being charged to read a blog on myspace. So they set up a paypal button or something?
Thats definately out of the question for me to even think about paying to read a blog.

I however don't see the harm in Stryper charging for meet n greet passes. But charging to read a blog. Now come on.... No
