(Yes,
but Hell Destroyer sounds more to me like a lot of error thrown in with
a little truth. No different than many movies, or supposedly Christian
books.)

| Meh, they aren't trying to claim it's truth, just a story. I don't get that bent if it doesn't blaspheme God though I understand those who want to stay away. To me it's just good music.

The point is that now they are touted as a Christian artist, with playing Cornerstone and getting featured in HM and things like that, and their lyrics don't seem to fit the bill.
I've listened to CAGE for 10 years (hard to believe it's been that long) but so far this new album isn't grabbing me. The guitar riffs and vocal melodies all seem very generic to me.

But this is par for the course w/Cornerstone and HM as of late, neither are exclusivly christian anymore, they cater to a broader audience. |

We saw that.
They can say whatever they like but their lyrics don't seem to line up too well with that, for reasons other people explained well in this thread.
Read the lyrics from the new album for yourself and also read all the lyrics from their first album (some of which are about as Christian as AC/DC) and then let's talk about if they are really a Christian band.

Effectively alienating approx. 93% of the market since CM is about 7% of the total market. So, yeah, I guess you all are right. | Allow me to play devil's advoate for a sec  , in a market of 93% a band could get lost in the mix, but in a market of 7% a band could get noticed and sell quite well, given the proper promotion. We also know many christians will buy something just because it's christian, and some will only buy chritian music, so by declairing themselves a christian band, they are probably garunteed some increase in sales. BoP always stated they were not a christian band, but they didn't mind if some percieved them as one, I thought that odd......hmm............

I think they could fare far better than that, w/the web and all, I did say w/proper promotion. I didn't say that was their motive, just one possibility. |

This is a recent quote from their frontman, and primary songwriter/lyricist.
Isn't the reason Bride may no longer be up for play in CRF because their lyrics don't line up with the Bible? I'm only asking that we apply the same standard to CAGE before we declare them to be a Christian band.

That could be seen as a long term investment, isn't that what many bands are told who play there w/out pay, exposure! There are record company reps there looking for talent and popularity, C-Stone has become big business! I've seen many bands/artists who have performed there over the years who called themselves christian, got signed and dropped the christian tag, or toned down the message and were no longer concerned about the ministy aspect of the band. I'm not judging them, had I made it in a band, w/real fame and fortune, are you kidding me? I would've been dead inside a year! |

Oh, I certainly don't think they are "trying" to poison us...I'm not claiming they are like King Diamond or anything. I don't want to condemn anyone..I just want to use discretion about what I listen to.
I listen to much more secular metal than I do overtly-Christian music. I was drawn to this board because it is "largely made up of Christians who also happen to enjoy Metal"....not because I necessarily have any great love of "Christian Metal"
I don't care if a band claims to be Christian or not, their personal lives don't matter to me...the lyrics and music are what matter to me. I'm going to try my best personally to stay away from stuff that mixes error and truth, as well as the outright blasphemy angle.
Again, I'd really rather a band just stay away from spiritual themes than to convey mixed up un-biblical stuff that might sound correct to folks who don't really know scripture.
I don't write off a band based on a particular album either. Albums are case by case basis for me. I have several bands where I enjoy some of their releases, but had to skip one here or there. Sometimes, I have to skip an entire album because of one song...maybe one day I'll do Itunes or Amazon digital so I can just go get the 9 out of 11 tracks that I'd feel comfortable listening to. 
I'd much rather that my 8 year old channel by MTV or something, and accidentally catch some worldly behavior that I can clearly explain as against God's desire and His Word...than to have her surf by one of the televangelist network stations and catch a few moments of some blue-haired, big-haired lady crying for money or some health-and-wealth name it and claim it stuffed suit preacher spouting error wrapped in biblical language.
I think the second would be more damaging and harder to explain because it sounds somewhat like language that you hear at church, and thus might "seem true". |

I'm just pointing out that there's been a paradigm shift in what we call christian these days, Cage never would've played C-Stone 20 years ago! I remember talking to a woman there a couple of years ago, she lives near some of the members of Slipknot, she was telling one of them if they toned down their show and lyrics she thought they could play at C-Stone, I believe she's right. |
