PostSubject: Christian beliefs under attack   Sat Oct 17, 2009 9:41 pm

Read this the other day, thought I'd share it with everyone and get some feedback.....

"A writer for The
Christian Science Monitor predicts that the coming
century will be “very secular and religiously antagonistic,”
with intolerance of Christianity “ris[ing] to levels many of
us have not believed possible in our lifetimes." Other wise observers have noted the
ever-growing, relentless attack on the Christian religion by
forces who reject the existence or authority of God. The extent and nature of religious
devotion in this nation is changing. The tide of public
opinion in favor of religion is receding, and this probably
portends public pressures for laws that will impinge on
religious freedom."

Atheism has
always been hostile to religion, such as in its arguments
that freedom of or for religion should include
freedom from religion. Atheism’s threat rises as its
proponents grow in numbers and aggressiveness. “By some
counts,” a recent article in The
Economist declares, “there are at least 500 [million]
declared non-believers in the world — enough to make atheism
the fourth-biggest religion.” And atheism’s
spokesmen are aggressive, as recent publications
show. As noted by John A. Howard of the Howard
Center for Family, Religion, and Society, these voices “have
developed great skills in demonizing those who disagree with
them, turning their opponents into objects of fear, hatred
and scorn.”

Transcript of Elder Dallin H. Oaks speech given at
BYU-Idaho on 13 October 2009.

The other day I was accused of preaching the bible at work, and I thought about that. I decided this is exactly what my Savior wants me to do, to warn my neighbor, to feed his lambs, no matter where I am. It is my calling to testify of His love for me and of His great atoning sacrifice for all of us, believer and non-believer alike. Just because it may seem old-fashioned or unpopular does not mean I will stop fighting for Him.

Any comments??

Jesus warned has warned us of this many times in the past (See Matthew and John). He says that in the end of time, many people will go against his people. They will perish, we will live. Even if they burn our bibles, burn our churches, or even kill our preachers, they will never get rid of the Holy Spirit Jesus blessed us with after his death.

Matt 7:15
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Mark 13:22
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

2 Peter 2:1
there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord

1 John 4:1
try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

I totally agree that in the West, it will be harder to be a Christian; things will get more diffcult for us believers. Just look at all the laws that have or have been passed here in the U.S. that are taking away more and more of our religious freedoms. But you know, we have so many people in this nation (and in the West in general) where being a Christian is nothing more than lip service and has nothing to do with turning way from one's sins and trusting in Christ.

Quite frankly, I think the Church in the West needs to be persecuted, in order to seperate the true believers from the phonies and extinguish all the false teachings that permeate our churches today. History has shown that whenever the church has been persecuted, it has actually grown.

And if we continue to see persecution of Christians in our nation, we will just be catching up to the rest of our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world, who live with severe persecution every day.

Kudos to you for being bold in your resolve to continue to take a stand for Christ.

Ironically enough I have thought the same thing about the church in the west... I had my mind made up years ago when I first heard the story of the Mark of the Beast that I wasnt taking it. When that time does come rest assured I'll be one whose beheaded

Not that it makes the article or the thoughts in it invalid but your sources are the Christian Science Monitor and a Mormon guy. Both of these groups receive a different kind of 'persecution' than a believer in what is commonly understood as biblical Christianity might/would.

I dealt with the stiffiling of Christianity recently in my own son's kindergarten class. They have a Kwansa party, Haunnekah party and a Thanksgiving party. They can't even SAY Christmas or Easter. They call it a Winter Party.

So they can teach about Kwansa which was created by a man in 1968 or 1969 who kidnapped, held and tortured 2 women in his basement. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't teach about Jesus.

I want to know how they teach about Channukah, considering it was about the Jews reclaiming the temple of God.
